Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we may be signs of God’s compassionate care for all who are marginalized or whose dignity is devalued

For transformation: that we may present ourselves before Christ and confidently surrender to his touch all that is sinful, selfish or alienating in our life

For unity in the human family: that God will protect all who are participating in the Olympics and promote a spirit of cooperation amongst all nations, races and peoples

For the grace to imitate Christ: that God will help us to love others, speak the truth, and surrender ourselves in service to God and neighbor as did Jesus

For greater compassion: that we may be aware of the outcast and welcome those who feel isolated within our faith community

For wisdom: that God will guide our choices so that our words and deeds may give glory to God and never be the source of scandal to others

For all who work in medical research: that God will guide their efforts in finding new means to fight disease and promote life

For all who are ill: that God will heal them in body, mind and spirit, restore them so that they can be a blessing to others, and share fully in the life of the community

For deep insight: that we may recognize the true wounds that we carry and that limit us, and humbly surrender them to Christ who makes all things new

For all who are engaged: that they may grow in their love for each other and come to know Christ through each other

For all married couples: that God will continue to deepen their love and help their relationship give witness to God’s loving presence in the world

For openness to the Spirit: that we may be attentive to the invitations of God to grow and change during the coming Lenten season

For all in authority in government, business and education: that God will give them wisdom to understand the true needs of those whom they serve and insights to address these issues

For greater stewardship of earth’s resources: that God will help us understand the value of all living things and the wisdom to protect them for future generations

For peace: that God will inspire world leaders to take bold steps to end violence and promote justice through dialogue and understanding
